22nd December 2024
No new releases until 2025, but we have a message to deliver :)
That's it everybody. There will be no new releases from TND in the fall of 2024 or this Christmas. However, please don't let this sadden you because TND will be back in the new year with some new fun and games to keep you entertained. In the meantime I would like to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. See you in January and have loads of great fun. Enjoy some classic Commodore 64 or retro games. I'm sure I will this Christmas. :)

New game release: Weights and Crates Deluxe

As you might have guessed, there was no news/updates for Novemeber 2024. It has been an extremely busy month, but now December is here, and even busier. A new game production has been launched and here it is ready for you to download and enjoy on your C64.

As you might have guessed, there was no news/updates for Novemeber 2024. It has been an extremely busy month, but now December is here, and even busier. A new game production has been launched and here it is ready for you to download and enjoy on your C64.

Weights and Crates Deluxe is a post-compo edition of the 4Kilobyte game Weights and Crates. This is a special extended edition which was made in co-op with TND and Blazon. The game has also been launched on Zzap! 64 Micro Action issue 23's covermount.

This special version of Weights and Crates consists of some enhanced graphics and sprites, a colourful front end with in game sound options, a hi score table, plenty of music and even a proper end scene. You are a factory worker who is employed by BLZ Explosives LTD. You have been assigned to work a night shift in goods in. Your job is to allow a set target number of crates to pass along the conveyor belt into the warehouse. The problem is - you also must be on the conveyor belt. Mind you do not stumble on to the yellow crates, do not touch the red crates, avoid the weights and try not to hit the weak position of the rollers. You don't want to end up in hot water do you eh? Ha, ha.

The Official C64 SEUCK Compo is coming back! Just look :)

For all those of you who have really missed the SEUCK Compo, since I last hosted it in 2021. I have some brilliant news that The Official C64 SEUCK Compo will be making a major comeback as an annual games development competition. In fact it is coming sooner that you think. In 2021 we had some amazing entries and by popular demand the Official C64 SEUCK Compo will be commencing on 1st January 2025. I have already set up the web site for the Official C64 SEUCK Compo 2025, which states rules and things like that, but please be reminded that the competition will NOT start until 1st of January 2025. There is a chance that during the compo TND might submit an entry, but you will have to see. For the competition, rules and other info on how to take part in this year's contest, please click on the link below. Maybe you could be the next SEUCKer star, just like Alf Yngve with Droid Rumble, Pinov Vox with RoboformX 2 and yours truly with Space Eggs.

New old game: Cosmic Combat DX V1.2 - Zzap! 64 M.A. edition

SEUCK Title Screen Maker V1.8 upgraded to V1.8+

For those of you who have been using my SEUCK Title Screen Maker V1.8, you may have discovered that the crash bug still existed after pressing fire on the end screen after completing a SEUCK game. For some strange reason it was jumping to the incorrect jump address and was trying to access the main menu code instead. I have now updated the tool to version 1.8+, which fixes the crash bug. A patch has been added to the "save title screen" option, so that instead of trying to jump to the main menu, the code will jump to either the hi score check routine or directly back to the title screen. Apart from that, nothing else has been changed as there was no need to change anything else. Have fun!

New old game: Cosmic Combat DX V1.2 - Zzap! 64 M.A. edition

Do you remember a while ago, Alf Yngve and I launched the arcade blaster, Cosmic Combat DX? Well, the game is back once more with one final upgrade. It has also started as an exclusive to the Zzap! 64 Micro Action issue 22 covermount and it is a corker.

Cosmic Combat DX has had a make over, which makes the game look even cooler. The upgrades in this version include a colourful pulsating up scroll message on the title screen. There is also a GET READY and GAME OVER screen. Some jingles and a hi score music are now featured in the production. The title screen music has been remixed slightly. Finally the game has a new score panel outfit, with slow pulsating colours, giving out the old retro arcade feel.

So why not grab yourself a free download of the game and enjoy.

There's more games to come before 2024 draws to a close.

Weights and Crates 4K to become a full game, and release month confirmed.

You might be interested to hear about the news about the 4K version of Weights and Crates. "Will there be a full deluxe edition of the 4K game, or will it not happen?". Well, it is time to answer this question. All I can say is "Yes", there will be a final version of Weights and Crates. The full version of Weights and Crates will contain a front end complete with hi score, some music, and more. The game graphics will be tweaked slightly. Launch month will be in December 2024 first as a covermount game then on the TND web site and my itch.io pages as usual.

New C64 Game: Weights and Crates 4K by TND Games

The New Dimension is very proud to present to you today a 4K game written exclusively for Reset's CrapTastic 4K game Compo 2024. This year TND's entry is Weights and Crates 4K. It is a fun little jump and avoid game. You play the role of a factory worker, whose job is to inspect incoming crates on board a moving conveyor belt by jumping over them. Points are scored when they leave the screen. There are also falling weights (from level 5+) to avoid. Avoid colliding into the crates, especially the red ones. Also avoid the red rollers. You might end up in deep water.

Weights and Crates 4K

It is hoped that there should be a final full version of the game, with presentation, music and hi score table at the fall of this year or perhaps the beginning of 2025.

New C64 Game: River Barrage by TND Games and Alf Yngve

Prepare yourself for some horizontal scrolling espionage action with this latest blaster from The New Dimension in co-op with Alf Yngve. River Barrage is a fun spy thriller, where you (and a friend) are secret agents, who are on board boats moving on a very large river across a National Park, infested by hungry crocs. The park has been transformed into a deadly barrage of bullets and mines (obviously dumped into the river). The plot thickens where the evil spy terrorist threatens to destroy a dam and flood all neighbouring villages around it. Two secret agents are in search of the evil spy in order to put an end to this cunning twisted plot. Expect thrills, spills and total carnage in this action packed Sideways scrolling SEUCK game, re-mastered with SEUCK Redux. It is time to be part of the action ... Go on!

Scene World #34 released

Issue 34 of Scene World has been released. This is perhaps one of the most largest issues of the PAL/NTSC talk diskmag available for your Commodore 64. In fact, there has been so much content, the diskmag menu was unable to cope with the extra content :) It has been held back until issue 35.This issue contains plenty of fun articles to entertain you. Also there are three exclusive interviews with some C64 legends who participated in the live Scene World Podcast. There is a third part of the programming feature "Fun With CBMPRGStudio" and Merman takes a look at some books devoted to the C64 and retro scene. Of course there is a lot more content involved in the diskmag. We hope you enjoy this issue and look forward to issue 35 some time in the winter. Have fun.

SEUCK Title Screen Maker V1.8 released

Oh no! Not another re-release of the same tool! Well, it is unfortunate to say that there was another spanner in the works. So guess what has happened? Yes, that is correct, another updated version of the SEUCK Title Screen Maker. This version fixes a crash bug on the end screen (if playing the standard vertical scrolling version of SEUCK and pressing fire to exit the ending).  The other bug fix is a simple patch on the title screen, so that the charset is correctly displayed on the title screen when you abort the game you are currently playing. Therefore there is no need for the TS Patcher. Finally the last fix allows the multi colour charset to display on the end screen if it is set from the option to load character sets and enable as multicolour mode. CETI 22 is still included as the example game, but it's title screen has been modified to work with SEUCK Title Screen Maker V1.8. The PDF manual has been updated slightly and the production is ready to download. Have fun.

Gearing up for Reset's Craptastic 4K compo 2024

I am very pleased to announce that T.N.D will be participating in this year's Craptastic 4K game compo. I have come up with a simple game idea, which is supposed to also have some form of comedy towards it. Last week, I got started in designing th game sprites and graphics (these are not permanent graphics) and I started coding the game in KickAssembler using VSCode with Kick Assembler and aslo CBMPRGStudio. The deadline for the Reset Craptastic 4K compo is 31st August, so there is plenty of time. I do have other projects in between, including issue 34 of Scene World (Coming hopefully end of this month - mid July) and also co-op with Alf Yngve with Captain Ishtar 2.

Yet another cool C64 utility from T.N.D

Tape Master Pro V5.0

The New Dimension is very proud to present which I believe to be one of the best versions of Tape Master Pro. Tape Master Pro V5.0 is a fun tape mastering program, which allows you to configure and generate a final tape master for your own game productions. This latest version consists of some new features, which include support for OCP Art Studio hi-resolution bitmap graphics as well as the usual Koala Paint multi-colour bitmaps. There is also support for music fading. This cool feature will only work if your music player uses full volume support. There are also the usual old features, and also the return of two old features by popular demand, but this time as options. The first is the "Space/Fire" prompt, after loading has finished and the second is the picture drawing on load. Tape Master Pro V5.0 consists of a new look menu, and plenty of options for you to build your own tape loader for your game. Just make sure you have the game, picture and relocated music before you save the tape master to disk.

Yet another updated utility

SEUCK Title Screen Maker V1.7+ with Patch

Once again I have updated the SEUCK Title Screen Maker disk. This time it contains a small patch program that fixes a bug, which has been reported to me last night. Whenever the player aborts a game to the title screen (Pressing P, Restore or Q after pausing the game with RUN STOP). The title screen appears on screen as intended, but for some strange reason, the screen ended up with garbage. To fix this problem, an additional file called the "TS Patcher" has been included in the SEUCK Title Screen Maker V1.7+ Also included some instructions on how to use the patcher. I hope you still have fun using this utility.

Oops! A small utility update

SEUCK Title Screen Maker V1.7+ by TND

You may remember that last weekend the SEUCK Title Screen Maker V1.7 was launched, but there turned out to be a bug in the "Multi-Track" music input option where some lines got garbled up, inlcuding the last line. This was due to a silly fault where the title screen self-modifying byte pointed to an incorrect location at $54A2. (I should not have used that for the menu). I am very pleased to say that  I have fixed this and replaced the original V1.7 version of the SEUCK Title Screen Maker with V1.7+. There is also an option to edit the hi score well done single line message as a bonus. Apart from that, nothing else has changed. If you have downloaded V1.7 last week, please head over to the same page and download V1.7+.

Projects in the works

First up is Tape Master Pro V5.0. Compared to V4.0, this version aims to be much better. First of all there will be the regular old features, featured in V3.0 and V4.0, but there will be some new features for the tape loader system. This includes a possibilty to fade music using $D418 or a custom volume support routine, when loading of the last program has finished. (This will not work on other players). Also there aims to be support for loading games with hi-res bitmap images as well as multi-colour bitmaps. There is also the return of the bitmap drawing sequence, and further more options to configure the loader's appearance. It is hoped to be launched some time in the Summer of 2024 should all go really well with it.

TND to partipate in Reset 4K game compo

It is confirmed that TND will be participating in the 4K game competition. A game idea has come to mind and while developing a main project with Alf Yngve over the next three months or so (Captain Ishtar 2). I will be digging out VSCode, and KickAssembler and Dali to create my 4K compo entry called "Weights and Crates". I won't tell you much about this little 4K game you will have to wait until 1st September to actually play it. I don't expect the to take took long to make. If you are interested in learning about the 4K Craptastic game compo, then please click on the link highlighted. Production of my game will commence 1st June 2024.

New utility / update

SEUCK Title Screen Maker V1.7 by TND

Back in December 2023, TND launched V1.6 of the SEUCK Title Screen Maker. This is a cool utility that allows you to make new front ends for games created using the Shoot Em Up Construction Kit and Sideways Scrolling adaptation of it. As well as some major bug fixes, there are some cool updates added to this version of the SEUCK Title Screen Maker. First there are two additional options that allow you to show an editor grid, to help you manually align text to a suitable position. The scroll text editor also allows you to switch between custom or the C64's default character set.  here are the usual regular features, used in the title screen maker. Also a couple of new features which were suggested by some of the users of the utility. The first one allows you to create end screens. The other gives additional support for music composed in multi-track editors (editors that contain more than one sub tune). You can assign up to 5 sub tunes in your production, in any order you composed the tunes. Finally as a bonus, an exclusive game has been launched. The game is of course Ceti 22 by Alf Yngve and myself. I hope you have fun with this new version of the SEUCK Title Screen maker. As usual on side 2 of the D64 are some in game enhancement code snippets, based on the SEUCK School tips. Some of those include one or two new suggested ones.

April 2024

March 2024 has seen no news updates due to no releases or content on TND. I have been really busy with a game project and trying to get it finished. Now it is finally released.

1st April (after 12:00pm)
New game release from TND and Blazon

Alpacalypse

Alpacalypse is an instant horizontal scrolling action run and jump game. You play the role of an Alpaca who is trapped inside the lethal underground lair of the Mayan Temple. The Alpaca has to run for its life from the evil spirits controlled by aliens, avoid traps and lasers. Also it must take a leap of faith in this wild and wonderful game. The game was developed by myself, in co-op with Hugues Poisseroux and Freeze/Blazon, who painted the logo for the game. The game also consists of some really nice arcade style sound effects blended in with music, which I made using EMS V7.03 for a change instead of Goat Tracker V2. The game consists of a nice loading bitmap painted by Hugues, with an extra special tape loader fitted for it (which is not the Burner). There is also a front end presentation with a logo painted by Freeze, a hi score table and eight levels for the poor Alpaca to endure. Hopefully this game should keep you addicted for a short while. A huge thanks goes to Hugues, Freeze, and Baracuda for testing this game. I hope you all enjoy it as it took a few months to make.

TND news update: February 2024

Alpacalypse Progress
Hmm, the TND web site has been very quiet over the past few weeks. WAIT! That doesn't mean anything. In fact, TND is still active. New productions are being developed. Alpacalypse is the main game project and the project is going really well. All eight levels of this game are now in place. There are some new enemies being drawn for the game. The Alpaca is able to jump over platforms, fall off ledges and completely through bridges. There is just resurrecting the sprite to sprite collision, ending, title screen and hi score table and final tweaking to complete. Also the music will need to be updated as get ready, game over, ending and title music will need to be done. I think Alpacalypse should hopefully be finished some time in early Spring 2024. Possibly April if all goes well.

Alpacalypse: The progress so far, before new sprites take place. Things are really shaping out well.

SEUCK Title Screen Maker + Enhancement Tutorials planned
After my main game project has completed, it is hoped that TND could be doing a series of tutorial videos on the latest version of the SEUCK Title Screen Maker (V1.6). It will go through the editor phase, all the way to linking the new front end and enhancing a SEUCK game with example code snippets. There also hopes to be a guideline on how to create your own enhancements, and future resources to help you out a little. The example game to be used will have to be made in SEUCK first. I do have a cool shooter in mind, but I will not be making it until after my main game project has finished.

With SEUCK Title Maker V1.6 you can not only make new front ends with optional hi score but also use the second D64 to enhance your game with a new panel,

Tape Master Pro V5.0 planned
After thinking about some features for Tape Master Pro V5.0. I am pleased to announce that this tool will be taking place in the forseeable future. It aims to commence around about Spring time. There are still the old features planned for the loader system (The main loader with the colour bar over text, and scroll text). There aims to be a version that will support Hi-Res loading bitmaps as well as multi-colour bitmaps. Also, there intends to be a music fade out option after loading has completely finished. The Nesquick V3D packer featured in V4.0 might be replaced with an alternative solution as there have been people experiencing problems with the packer. I know I have a few times.TMP is by far one of the most easiest tape mastering tools to have ever graced the C64. If you would like to check out the latest version, then it is currently Tape Master Pro V4.0 from Christmas 2019.

January 2024

1st January 2024
Happy New Year

The New Dimension would like to wish you all a very Happy New Year.Well, 2023 sure has been a blast, with Blastopia DX Special Edition and Lunar City. However, you may have noticed 2023 was a year where I had been least active in the C64 scene. 2024 is most likely to be similar, but it will be nice to have at least one or two hours to spare for development or gaming. The first on top of my list is Alpacalypse, in which I am making in co-op with Blazon. Below you can see a screen shot of one of the levels in the game. It is starting to shape up nicely. With Hugues (Ax!s) Poisseroux doing the game graphics, myself doing the coding, sound effects (self-programmed) and music (Using EMS V7.03) and Freeze taking part in logo graphics. It is hoped that later on this winter we will release a quality run and jump game inspired by the T-Rex Game Jam by Retro Programmers Inside - Although our game will be slightly more different in a kind of way. :)

Another little project I have in mind will be the Tape Master Pro V5. People seem to like Tape Master Pro V4, but there have been some suggestions on how to improve the tape loader system. V5 should hopefully make those improvements. It has been suggested that Tape Master Pro should support hi-resolution pictures. There was also a suggestion that some music players that have full volume control should be able to fade before de-crunching the main program. Some of you also miss the picture drawing during loading. So hopefully this time round, it should make a comeback.

Finally, there is going to be another little game in store for Lemon64's Turbo Assembler tutorial. Hopefully after Alpacalypse has been completed. I will also be developing Captain Ishtar 2 (for free as usual) for Alf Yngve as this looks to be a really fun project. It is also hoped that the Mix Box music selector could be making a comeback some time later on this year. I will be using different music editors to create my own tunes, and launch them into that program to share with the C64 community.

I wish you all a Happy New Year until our my next update.
