No more new releases for 2021

Usually this time of year I launch a brand new game on 25th December 2021. Sadly due to the project not being ready in time for the festive period. The game should hopefully be released some time in January 2021. I don't wish to reveal too much, but I think it is a crazy and quite an original idea for a hi score attack party game with levels. I believe you probably want a change, compared to many scrolling space blasters I have been writing in the past or SEUCK/Redux projects. :)

Just in case you missed this: There will be no more SEUCK compos run by TND. If you write a SEUCK game and want to share it with me. I will take a look and if it is worth releasing, it might appear on the TND contributors page.

I would like to wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year. I'll see you in January 2022 with a brand new C64 game release in my very next update.

Stay tuned :o)

1st December 2021
An early Christmas gift - 2 full games released

Ray Fish Deluxe by TND Games
Ray Fish is a vertical scrolling underwater shoot 'em up, originally made using the Shoot Em Up Construction Kit. The game has been fully extended and remastered with a brand new front end with hi score table, also major in game enhancements, background animation, and plenty of music. Your celestial home planet, Atlantor is protected by a shield to keep migrating aliens out. Sadly a malfunction had caused a system re-boot. The shield powered down, encouraging aliens to enter your home planet. After the shield came back up and running again, Atlantor is infested with aliens. The security satellite cannons and orbs have now turned against you. Guide Ray Fish through four different levels, fighting the aliens. At the end of each stage, you will encounter a deadly alien boss. It can be destroyed as a whole by 15 hits. The aliens will also attempt to attack you. Pick up blue orbs for random power ups, and pick up pink orbs for a temporary shield. Can Ray Fish save Atlantor from becoming a new home for unwanted visitors? Good luck.

Cosmic Combat by Alf Yngve and TND Games
Get ready for some SEUCK arcade style blasting, as Alf Yngve and TND Games strike back with an awesome high score attack arcade blaster. Cosmic Combat DX is a sequel to the original Cosmic Combat, written back in 1993 (Which has also been given away as a bonus game). Cosmic Combat DX pushes SEUCK to its limits, with aid of Martin Pipers' SEUCK Redux. Just count the number of aliens you can fight on one screen, you'll be remarkably impressed. It also features a new front end presentation with some cool music. The tune might sound quite familiar although it is a variation.

Cosmic Combat DX is for 1 or 2 players. Your mission is to fight wave after wave against the alien invaders. At the end of each round, you will face a bonus stage. Where you do battle against aliens that don't shoot. Beware, they will still be able to kill you. This game was inspired by classic arcade shoot 'em ups such as Galaxians, Galaga, Moon Cresta,  etc.

2 new games coming December 2021
Although TND is not doing a Christmas update this year, due to uncertainty (and de-motivation). There is a glimmer of hope that two new C64 games might be coming to TND in early December 2021. They are two SEUCK Redux titles, which should give you some joy for a few minutes or so. One is a vertical scrolling space arcade shooter, inspired by the classic ATARI arcade games, and another is a special deluxe edition of a particular underwater arcade shoot 'em up game I wrote for the Official C64 SEUCK Compo 2021 complete with re-designed levels, and better game play.

Watch out for these releases in December and prepare for a good blasting :)

New C64 Game: Rocket Away 2 from Blazon
Prepare yourself for a fun high score attack challenge. This time it is "Rocket Away 2" courtesy with Blazon and friends. This is a little party game sequel to the original Rocket Away (Originally created for the Cassette 50 Charity competition). It features graphics by Dirk S, myself and Firelord/Excess (Who also did a loading bitmap specially for this game). I did all the sound and music. You have approximately eight minutes to survive flying your rocket through an asteroid belt. After approximately one minute, the game will get faster. Collect the 'B' pods to gain bonus points during your journey. Watch out for the asteroids. If you hit one, your energy will drain. As soon as all of your energy has gone, your rocket will explode and the game is over. Try to score the highest number of points where possible. Can you beat the scores of the game development and testing team? Good luck :)

Blast off with "Rocket Away 2"

There is a possibility that Rocket Away 2 could be my final game release for 2021. We will have to wait and see.
Don't worry, there should be more new games coming in 2022. I love the C64 and making new stuff for it ;)

Assemble It Updated: Tape multi-load games
Today's latest update has been added to the Assemble It page. This time it is something pretty fun and challenging on the coding side. It is time to create a fast tape multi-load system for a C64 game. This does sound difficult doesn't it? Hopefully when you check out the article, and also the example source which I have provided you to help out. Hopefully you should be creating tape multi-load as well as disk multi-load games in no time using Freeload and PRG2TAP. Blastopia DX has been used as the test guinea pig. With Zzap 64 and its covermount sharing both disk and tape. It is time for disk multiload games to also cater for tape. Have fun!

Gyro Run source code added
You may remember Gyro Run around about spring time this year. The game did go quite well in the CSDB Fun Compo 2021 and won the game competition. You played the game, now it is time to check out the game code, and try to make something similar - if you want to. The source code is available on the Assemble It page.

Christmas update news

This year The New Dimension will be doing no Christmas Release update. There is a reason behind this. Although games, such as Star Fysh, Amazon Tales and ZZapped in the Butt DX and a few other treats had been developed and released for the TND Christmas Update in the past. I have decided to not to go ahead with it this year, due to uncertainty. This does not mean that there will be no releases at all. In fact I have one or two more releases in store before the year ends. There will be at least one more game from TND before the year ends.

SEUCK Title Screen Maker V1.1 released

Have you ever written a game using the Shoot 'Em Up Construction Kit or Sideways Scrolling SEUCK? Are you bored with the same old bar-cycling or plain title screen with no sound or music? Do you want a new animated front end with a nice bitmap, scroll text and relocated music? Do want all of this but you cannot code? If the answer is "yes", you will love to hear that TND has launched the latest version of the "SEUCK Title Maker". It is a fun tool for your Commodore 64, which does NOT require any programming. All you need is a freezer cartridge (or plug in). A full instructions manual has also been included. So then, do you want to make your presentation for SEUCK Game titles stand out more? A full PDF instructions manual is also included. Head down to the utilities download page now ;)

Cruiser-X 79 on hold

It is with regret that "Cruiser-X 79" will not be released at the end of 2021 where planned. Progress with the freeware game was going remarkably well on the coding and music side. It is more finished on that side of the project. However there is the problem that main assets for the project have not been completed yet. Therefore since I cannot program any more things without those, the project is currently paused for the time being. Should any news change. We will have to wait and see what happens. I know you have been looking forward to this production, but sadly it had to happen.

New C64 Game release: Shock Raid by TND Games

The New Dimension is very pleased to present to you a game, which was made for Reset issue 14's Mix-I-Disk (Which has sadly been delayed, but I have been given the go ahead to release it). Shock Raid is a fast paced four level shoot 'em up. The planet Zarjon is hurtling towards Earth. This is being caused by a super powerful crystal, that has been stored inside the last cavern. Your mission is to guide your ship in a mission, "Operation Shock Raid". Fight the aliens, dodge the lasers and then destroy the crystal. There are four different caverns in which to fly through. Try not to crash into anything, otherwise one of your shields will short out. If you lose all 15 shields - Earth will be finished.

This game has not been created with SEUCK (Shoot Em Up Construction Kit)

Assemble It Updates

Some more updates have been added to the Assemble It feature, in Chapter 8. Today's update has a return to the top page feature, in order to make navigation easier on this chapter. There are also a few additional game sources and other bits for you to download play around with and try to make your own games, or whatever from. Today's project installments are as follows:

Trance Sector

Excluding the tape loader. The source consists of all of the code a data that was used to create and build Trance Sector - Competition edition. A fun fast paced collect and avoid challenge. Control your ship around the maze and pick up the radioactive pods, but don't let those missile get you.

Killer Saucers

A fast paced  shoot 'em up I made last year. Also, I managed to preserve the code with the game project. This is a single screen shoot 'em up. Your mission is to defend planet earth from the deadly killer saucers as the enter the screen. Some will dive bomb you, and they will also drop missiles.

... and finally

Micro Trance player (and music)

Back in 2019 I was working on a 4K intro for the Intro Creation Compo 2019. The obstacle I came up with was adding sound to the intro, since a lot of memory was used up. A possible solution was made, which was to painstakingly code my own music player and routine that fit a small amount of memory. This was where Micro Trance was born. A simple, but uplifting repetitive trance track painfully coded in Turbo Assembler, now ported to C64Studio for you to explore.

There will be another Assemble It update with some more additional stuff coming in in the near future. For now:

Shock Raid and SEUCK Compo 2021 - Prizes release date

The official C64 SEUCK prize package Compo 2021 has been set for August 2021, but it could be possible that the compo prize pack could be ready way before then. Reset's Shock Raid release date has been set for August 2021. It is not known which part of August the releases will take place, but of course it is highly likely that the SEUCK Compo 2021 Prize Package will be released the first or second week in that particular month.

In the mean time should any more C64 releases on the TND/Contributors front slide into our inbox. You'll probably see news about it.
:)

Thank you for your patience.

New C64 Game - Gyro Run

Are you ready to get your head in a spin?. Well Gyro Run is a crazy game that will do exactly that. This was quite an original idea I come up with for game compo at the CSDB Fun Compo 2021. You play a game  in which you control a spinner by turning the arrow dial and pressing fire to launch it the direction of the arrow. The aim of the game is to whizz around the arena and pick up tasty sweet treats for 200, 300 or even 500 points. No simple game can be without a sinister plot. As well as treats appearing at random on the screen, there will also be deadly skulls to watch out for. If your spinner picks up a treat, not only will it score points, but it will also gain a shield. Be warned, that will not last, and it is possible that treats and skulls *will* appear on the same spot where your spinner is. Keep on raking in those points until you are finished.

Assemble It update - Vortex Crystals

You may have remembered that back in January 2021 I had completely lost my work data of many of my own game projects, due to a HDD failure and problems with storage cloud backup processes. Good news is that I did not completely lose ALL my productions. In fact some of the files were stored onto my Ultimate 64 computer. The bad news however is that they are only the files that were made since 2017 and beforehand. Therefore I am unable to give you source code for a lot of my 2019+ projects, apart from the recent newer projects.

Today's update is only one game. It is something quite special, which was originally made as an entry for RGCD's 16KB cartridge competition in 2015. Then 2 years later the final full game was made. That's right, today, I am very happy to bring to you the full 2017 edition of Vortex Crystals and all of its binary and code files. All you will need is C64 Studio or ACME cross assembler to explore the code. Enjoy.

New C64 game, Para Lander DX released
Para Lander by TND Games

Over the Easter period The New Dimension has been busy on  a new C64 game. Para Lander DX is a fun hi score attack game, which was partially written as a theC64 challenge. The game has been thoroughly tested and is now confirmed to be finished and now it has finally been released. Para Lander DX is a deluxe edition of the original Para Lander Mini game, which I wrote back in December 2020. This is a fun deluxe version of original the 2K game, now featuring a front end presentation, smoother game graphics and game play, hi-score table, 16 levels (Where game speed of the Zeppelins gradually increase) and finally plenty of music to have you dancing around the room to (Although personally, you should be playing the game). Launch your paratrooper from the sky, and land safely onto all six landing pads for a bonus. Avoid the Zeppelins and falling into the water. You would prefer to be in a hot tub than a freezing cold ocean. Don't dither for too long. Should you make 4 mistakes or run out of time, the game is up. Still, I do hope you have fun playing this game.

RoboformX2 by Pinov Vox

Just in today comes this brand new SEUCK game, written by Pinov Vox. This time it is a sequel to the original RoboFormX game. Your robot comes to the rescue once again in order to destroy a deadly virus inside the mainframe. Your mission is to shut down all of the mainframe systems (The pulsating circles) and fight against the rogue robots and droids. At the end of each level you will encounter a boss enemy. Shoot it many times to destroy it (or just wait). This game has some nice graphics, and some 90's style techno music I made in DMC to suit the game's theme. Enjoy :)

Here is my first game release for 2021. Ray Fish is a vertical scrolling shoot 'em up with colourful graphics and powerful late 1980s style tunes (Which I made with Future Composer V4.1) . Your world has been turned upside-down by aliens. A beacon has been installed and has caused your planet, Atlantor to go berzerk. Your mission is to save Atlantor from being infested by aliens. Guide your Ray Fish through four different levels. Fight the aliens, rogue security systems and  locate the beacon and try to destroy it. Collect orbs for bonus points. Now then I thought there was something fishy going on.

Bad News - but is it really all bad news?
Cruiser-X 79 news - What's happened?

I had a disaster last Tuesday. The hard disk drive on my old development system grinded to a major halt. I had to re-install Win 10 on to my old system once again. I attempted a backup process through the cloud drives. I re-installed Win 10 on to the HDD, which unfortunately completely wiped out the HDD. I used recovery software in attempt to find the missing project files. Nothing was recoverable. I went to the backup clouds ro restore the files I I thought backed up. The files were deleted from the cloud drives. I lost everything. Including all of my game sources. My PC was well and truly borked up.

Now I am working on a new dev system, which I tried to restore the game projects from the cloud drives. Still I had no luck. All the code and data must have been deleted by the cloud systems or my HDD was completely screwed up at the time during the backup process. This means that for future C64 projects, including Cruiser-X 79, I am going to have to start from scratch (Unless of course I find the project backed up on a CD-ROM from last year or something like that). For future C64 development, I will be using GitHub as a backup process for my source code and data - so this problem doesn't happen again. The ongoing projects will be hidden from public eyes, but the complete project source code will be available publicly  :)

I would like to say sorry to Saul Cross and to you all, also  thank you for your patience. This game will happen, and hopefully at a faster process than before hand.

Official C64 SEUCK Compo 2021 gets a first entry and also SEUCK School Updates
Their Machine by Raul Gubert

The very first entry to this year's official C64 SEUCK Compo starts with Their Machine by Raul Gubert. It is a push scrolling Sci-Fi shoot 'em up adventure. You play an agent who has to fight the machine before it takes over the world. You will need to take a few precautions while on your mission. Not everything appears to be what it seems. It's a horrible world out there.

This way to: Their Machine

SEUCK School Updates

A few SEUCK school tutorial updates have popped by. Today's updates were mainly discovered by Eleanor Burns. There is a trick on how to change the sprite characters in the game status panel. Also there is a brand new and clever trick which allows the player to use more than 2 frames of animation, when moving multi-directional. The trick will only work on single player games. Finally, there are some Action Replay backup tips for those who cannot code, but want to make their game disks single-filed using the cartridge freezer.

Okay pupils, it is time for SEUCK School
